Clam digging, 10 a.m. Aug. 10 in Georgetown

Join the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust for its annual lesson in clam digging. At Reid State Park, the public will be taught how to dig for clams by Georgetown shellfish warden Jon Hentz. He will share clam-digging techniques and information about the local clam-harvesting industry. Participants will discover the importance of clean water to clams and the harvesters that dig them. Land Trust Walk, 10 a.m. Aug. 13 in Scarborough

Portland city arborist Jeff Tarling will lead a discussion of the trees on the Scarborough Land Trust’s Pleasant Hill Preserve. Meet at the preserve’s new parking area on Pleasant Hill Road near Fogg Road. The talk is free and open to the public. For more information, call 289-1199.

Cross River Preserve, 10 a.m. Aug. 9 in Boothbay Harbor

The Boothbay Region Land Trust’s Nature Hike series meets weekly throughout the year and visits a different preserve each time for a moderately paced, hour-long hike. The event is free and open to the public. Meet at the trailhead parking lot on Route 27, 3.2 miles north of the monument at Boothbay Center. For more information, call 633-4818.
