Members of School Administrative District 75 are grieving after the district’s business manager, Steve Dyer, died unexpectedly earlier this week.

Superintendent Brad Smith left an automated voice message to all district employees Wednesday asking them to check their email. They all received emails from Smith informing them of Dyer’s death.

“While we do not know any details yet, Steve passed away overnight, and was non-responsive this morning,” Smith wrote.

Dyer worked just short of seven years for SAD 75. He was hired while Michael Wilhelm was still superintendent.

“Steve has been an integral part of our school district since coming to work here in September of 2009,” Smith wrote to district employees. “He was involved in so many aspects beyond the budget. His contact with so many of you, and the nature of his work prompted the voice call and email to ensure that all within the MSAD No. 75 Staff were aware of this loss.”

Smith said, “Our hearts, prayers and sympathy go to his wife and family. Steve was a remarkable individual, and we are struggling to deal with this news.”

Smith said in an email to The Times Record Thursday that Dyer was truly one of a kind, and gave 100 percent every day to the school district. Dyer was always willing to take on more, he said.

“We simply will never be able to replace him,” Smith said. “He has touched so many lives, in so many ways. He was so much more than a business manager to us.” dmoore@timesrecord.com
