A large section of central and southern Aroostook County lost electricity Monday afternoon.

Bob Potts, a spokesman for Emera Maine, said in a news release that the widespread power outage appears to have been caused by a fault in the transmission line that feeds the region from New Brunswick.

Customers in Caribou and Presque Isle were affected and towns all the way south to Island Falls. The service disruption started around 4 p.m.

By 10 p.m., electrical service had been restored to all of Emera Maine’s customers.
