The Southern Maine Athletics Association – comprised of 16 schools, including Gorham – included a large number of Rams on its lists of spring accolades, both for All-Conference and All-Academic.

Baseball
Fred Harlow Award (for all-around dedication and attitude) – Sam Kilborn
SMAA Batting Champion – Ben Nelson (.442)
SMAA First Team – Ben Nelson (IF), Trent Bassingthwaite (OF), Logan Drouin (P)
SMAA Second Team – Gerek Brown (OF), Sam Kilborn (P)
SMAA Honorable Mention – Cam Smith
SMAA All-Academic Team – Sam Kilborn, Calvin Riiska, Jesse Southard

Gorham produced a solid season in 2016, so Nelson’s, Bassingthwaite’s and Drouin’s spots on the First Team Roster are well-earned. They stand alongside contenders like Ben Lambert of Thornton, who earned two nominations all to himself, in the outfield and on the mound, as well as the League’s Most Valuable Pitcher award; Sam Troiano and Nick Troiano, brothers out of South Portland, in the outfield and behind the plate, respectively; and Josh Reed at utility and Mitch Wedge at pitcher, both of Scarborough.

Softball
SMAA Second Team – Grace McGouldrick (P)
SMAA Honorable Mention – Noelle DiBiase, Lindsey Wilcox

McGouldrick shares Second Team pitching duties with the mighty Dani Tardiff of Windham and Louisa Colucci of TA, while DiBiase and Wilcox join the Honorable Mention squad alongside Abbie Murrell and Hannah Ricker of Scarborough, Molly Boissonneault and Morgan Colemen of Sanford and Grace Martin and Amber Magnant of Biddeford.

York, Anderson and Landry: Three slots on the First Team is more than any other school can claim this year. The trio features alongside standouts like Sam Neugebauer and Reece Lagerquist of State Champion Scarborough; Curtis Knapton and Noah Oliver of neighbors, friends and rivals Westbrook; and Nate Richards and Max Hornblower of Deering.

Girls Lacrosse
SMAA First Team – Allison Sinnett (G)
SMAA Second Team – Marina Pappalardo (A), Jen Darasz (D)
SMAA Honorable Mention – Brooke Greatorex, Athena Pappalardo
SMAA Rookie Team – Hallie Shiers

Sinnett is in great company on the First Team, where Maquila DiMastrantonio, Delia Sylvain, Madi Drain and Logan Champlin, all of No. 2 Massabesic, also land. Besides Champlin, Sinnett’s defenders also include Jenna Kashmer and Gabby Bazemore (both of No. 1 Marshwood) and Mya Mannette of Windham, who were No. 2 in the North.

Boys Tennis
SMAA First Team – Thomas Brent (singles)
SMAA Second Team – Ryan Firmin (doubles), Kevin Brewer (doubles)

Brent joins Conor Doane (Deering) and a pair of Golden Trojans – Dariy Vykhodtsev and Viktor Shwarz – on the singles roster. Henry Gates and Dan Mencher of Portland, and Dylan Gooch and Jared Waterhouse, also of Thornton, complete the First Team as doubles duos.

Girls Tennis
SMAA First Team – Avery Arena (doubles), Lauren Poirier (doubles)
SMAA Second Team – Jenna Cowan (singles), Whitney King (singles)

Along with Arena and Poirier, Kaicee Flaherty and Caitlin Merrill of Scarborough, and Pilar Salcedo and Claudia de la Hoz Garcia of TA earn First Team doubles honors. Rounding out Cowan and King’s Second Team singles contingent are Maddie Abbott of Deering and Emily Keenan of Scarborough.

Boys Outdoor Track
SMAA All-Conference – Billy Ruby (High Jump), Brandon Kuusela (300 Hurdles), Sean Pratt (Racewalk), Spencer Linscott (Racewalk)

Ruby joins two other elites in the High Jump, Sam Rusak of Scarborough and Ruay Bol of South Portland, while Kuusela likewise finds himself alongside a pair of standouts in Paolo DeMarco of Deering and Shammah Gahomera of Westbrook. Strong as Gorham is in the Racewalk, Pratt and Linscott share that event with just Steven Smith of South Portland.

Girls Outdoor Track
SMAA All-Conference – Evelyn Kitchen (Javelin), Bridget Rossignol (Pole Vault), Hayley Bickford (Racewalk)

Merely a freshman, Kitchen leads two seniors – Emily Grinnell of Cheverus and Kat Locke of Marshwood – for top honors in the javelin. Similarly, Bickford leads Abby Donahue of South Portland and Amy Pass of Noble in their event. Meanwhile, Rossignol and Kirsten Dennen of Scarborough trail Westbrooker Kiersten Hilton, a dominant force in the Pole Vault.

Gorham’s Mat Anderson earned top honors for his defensive prowess.

Jenna Cowan earned a Second-Team singles slot for her contributions to an outstanding Rams squad.

Gorham’s Billy Ruby made the All-Conference cut in the Long Jump.

Gorham’s Gerek Brown trots home in a mid-season win at Windham. Brown earned Second-Team honors for his outfield play.
