The 47th annual Bath Heritage Days festival was held on the banks of Kennebec River from Friday through Monday.

A staple for Bath locals and tourists alike, the festival had no shortage of sights and activities. There was a Ferris wheel, an old-fashioned soda stand, a caricature-drawing tent, and all the French fries and fried dough a family could eat. On Sunday, the Pete Kilpatrick Band serenaded the festivalgoers with covers and original music, setting the tone for a gorgeous midsummer afternoon, and Patten Free Library hosted a book sale that lasted the entire day.

One of the highlights on Sunday was the Front Street Shuffle Antique Car Show. Held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., this display showcased around 50 hot rods, some from as far back as the roaring ’20s.

“I’ve been bringing cars here since 2001,” said Bill Harmon, who was showcasing his blue revamped 1936 Plymouth Pinto. Like most of the cars lining Front Street, the Pinto was for sale. “ No buyers yet, but it’s just fun to be out here with all the other car owners,” he said.

The largest vehicle on the street was an old firetruck brought in by the Bath fire department. Purchased, refurbished and maintained by the Box-19 Club — a group of retired and active firefighters from the Bath area — the firetruck has been the focal point of the antique show for years.

“She was put into commission in 1941,” said Box- 19 member Rabyrne Hutton, who was standing next to truck and hoisting kids up into the driver’s seat when they wanted to play fireman. “She was decommissioned in the ’80s and sat for 17 years. Got all rusty. In 2006, the Box-19 Club took a chance and bought her, cleaned her up. Now we bring her out for all the parades, and today is sort of a showcase to show her off. We’ll be giving kids rides around the festival after the show today, and after the (Fourth of July) parade.”

The Box- 19 Club also brings the truck out for weddings and special events, free of charge.

“We take donations, but our sponsors are great and make this all possible,” Hutton said.

Sponsors for the car show and the Bath Heritage Days festival itself include Bath Savings Institution, Byrnes Irish Pub and Midcoast Federal Credit Union.
