Firefighters from Gorham battled a woods fire for nearly three hours Monday evening before they were able to contain the fire off Hutcherson Drive, near the Cross Town Trail.
An emergency dispatcher for Cumberland County did not know how big the fire was. The fire was reported around 6:45 p.m. and was contained around 10 p.m.
WMTW-TV reported that a campfire used for cooking started the blaze.
The Maine Forest Service’s wildfire danger report says the predicted fire danger for Monday was highest in southern and coastal Maine.
