BRUNSWICK — The “Our Health: Film and Discussion Series” continues on June 28 at Frontier Cinema and Café in Brunswick. Offered jointly by Mid Coast Hospital and Access Health, the next film, “The Raising of America” will screen at 7 p.m., followed by a discussion about early childhood development in the Midcoast region. The event is free and open to the public.
The Raising of America Series is a five-part documentary series that explores the questions: Why are so many children in America faring so poorly? What are the consequences for the nation’s future? How might we, as a nation, do better? The Signature Hour interweaves discoveries from neuroscience with the stories of families and communities struggling to provide the nurturing environments all babies and young children need to thrive.
Senior Director of Behavioral Health at Mid Coast–Parkview Health Thomas M. Kivler, pediatrician at Martin’s Point Health Care Dr. Deborah Q. Hagler and Director of Community Impact/Success By 6 at United Way of Mid Coast Maine Peter V. Lindsay, will lead the audience in discussion directly following the film.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
