Actors’ Studio offering summer youth theater camp
Midcoast Actors’ Studio will offer a Youth Summer Musical Theater Camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 11 to 22 at the Troy Howard Middle School, 173 Lincolnville Ave.
The day camp is designed for ages 8 to 14 and includes daily rehearsals in singing, dancing and acting, including set props, costume design, snacks, a camp T-shirt, a trip to the city park pool, and a cookout and performance for family and friends on the last day.
This year’s musical will be “Annie.” Registration fee is $150, due by July 1. Limited scholarships are available.

Partnership helping camp properties be renovated
Several buildings at Pine Tree Council camp properties are undergoing restoration and renovation thanks to the partnership of historic Camp William Hinds on Panther Pond with the Pentagon’s Innovative Readiness Training Program.
Military personnel team up to supply the labor for the construction projects while receiving essential training in engineering and construction to prepare them for combat missions.
In-kind donations from the local building community and financial gifts from community partners cover the cost of materials. A recent donation by Norway Savings Bank will fully finance a new 10,000-square- foot dining hall on the property, that is scheduled for completion this fall.

$25,000 grant to Women’s Fund supports added grants
The Maine Women’s Fund has received a $25,000 grant from a private foundation to support three additional grants this year, for a total of $136,400 in funding to 15 organizations in 2016.
Programs funded by the organization are intended to improve the quality of life for Maine women and girls through increased access to education and healthcare, developing financial literacy and leadership skills and influencing public policy.
The three additional initiative grant recipients are Crisis & Counseling Centers, Inc., New Ventures Maine and Maine NEW Leadership.

Eagles Auxiliary donates to four nonprofit organizations
The Westbrook Eagles Auxiliary recently made donations to four nonprofit organizations from funds raised in 2015.
The recipients were Camp Sunshine and the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, which each received $2,000, the Barron Center, which received $700, and the Milestone Foundation, which received $317.

Middle school students collect roadside trash
Seventy-one Biddeford Middle School students recently lined both sides of Route 4 for a beautification project to collect trash and bottles from the roadside. The group started at the rotary in Sanford and worked its way toward Waban.
The work was directed through Waban and the United Way of York County as part of a Kids’ Day of Caring.

State Farm donates truck to college’s tech program
State Farm Insurance has donated a diesel pickup truck to Southern Maine Community College’s automotive technology program.
The 2007 GMC 3500 pickup truck will be used for the new class the college is developing to introduce students to diesel engine operation and diagnosis.

Library announces several summer event schedules
Kennebunk Free Library announces its summer active program called “On Your Mark, Get Set… READ!”
Special events that will be held throughout the summer include a visit from magician Norman Ng, a visit from members of a Maine roller derby team and baseball writer Carl Johnson.

Loyal Biscuit raising funds to buy 10 pet oxygen masks
The Loyal Biscuit Co. and its customers recently raised funds to purchase 10 pet oxygen masks that will be donated to 10 different fire departments.
Loyal Biscuit has partnered with Bobby Silcott, founder of the Maine POM Project, since 2010 to ensure that local fire departments have access to these devices as well as to educate the public on pet first aid and CPR. For more details, write to chelsie@loyalbiscuit.com.

Library offering computer programming workshops
The Scarborough Public Library is accepting registrations for a free five-part “Programming for Beginners: Basic Javascript” workshop that will be held June 27 through Aug. 1 at 48 Gorham Road.

Health care at home firm receives grant of $16,000
MaineHealth Care At Home, formerly HomeHealth Visiting Nurses, has received a $16,000 one-year grant from the Huntington Common Charitable Fund for Seniors of the Kennebunk Savings Bank Foundation. This grant will support implementation of a comprehensive educational program aimed at advancing the skills and knowledge of clinicians throughout the agency.
Program components include 25 hours of training with specific modules on advanced dementia, end-of-life dementia care, and behavioral health. The program also includes individual certification for participants.
