PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Authorities in New Hampshire say two passengers who were thrown from a boat in the Piscataqua River have been rescued.

The Portsmouth Herald reports the New Hampshire Marine Patrol reported that boat operator William Griffin hit a submerged hazard on Wednesday morning. The impact threw Griffin and his his 12-year-old son into the water under the General Sullivan Bridge.

The 49-year-old North Berwick man and his son screamed for help. A nearby Good Samaritan rescued them from the water and transported them to Great Bay Marine.

The two were treated for minor injuries at Portsmouth Regional Hospital and released.

Marine Patrol officers investigated the incident.
