Baxter Museum open for season
The Baxter Museum, boyhood home of James Phinney Baxter, is open for visitors from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through August or by appointment, Linda Frinsko, museum director, has announced.
The museum, 67 South St., is next door to Baxter Memorial Library. Baxter, father of Maine Gov. Percival Baxter, gifted the museum and library to the town in 1908. The home was built in 1797.
“The museum houses artifacts from Gorham residents and some pieces from the Baxter family,” Frinsko said.
Admission is free but donations are welcome. For more information, call Frinsko at 839-3878.
Maine author Robinson
North Gorham speaker
Author/midwife Linda Orsi Robinson will speak at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 23 at the North Gorham Public Library, 2 Standish Neck Road, Gorham. Robinson will discuss her book, “Sunday Morning, Shamwana – A Midwife’s Letters from the Field.”
Far from her home in Bar Harbor, Robinson served with a humanitarian organization, Doctors Without Borders, as a nurse-midwife in Shamwana, a remote village in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
She struggled to improve lives of those in Shamwana, the library said in a release. Robinson has co-authored two other books and has also served as a Peace Corps volunteer.
For more information, call Jennifer Plummer, library coordinator, at 892-2575 or email libng@north-gorham.lib.me.us.
