Westbrook voters approved next year’s $35.1 school budget during a validation referendum Tuesday, with unofficial results at 732-281, with 12 blank tallies.

Residents also voted yes to continue voting on the school budget, with an overwhelming 821-197, with 7 blank votes.

In the Senate District 28 race – a three-way Democratic primary between Mark Dion, Jill Duson and Ann Peoples of Westbrook – Dion came away with the victory. He had 43 percent of the vote, compared to 39 for Duson and 17 for Peoples.

Peoples, a former state representative and Westbrook City Council and Planning Board member, won the Westbrook vote, but lost handily in Portland.

District 28 includes portions of Portland and Westbrook, and is currently held by Anne Haskell, a Democrat.

Dion will run in November against Republican Karen Usher of Westbrook.
