A 36-year-old New York man was killed in a motorcycle accident Monday afternoon in Alfred, Maine State Police said Tuesday.

Robert Locke, of Lynbrook, New York, was traveling in a group of motorcyclists to Laconia, New Hampshire, along Route 111 when he swerved to avoid a vehicle turning onto Clark Road.

Locke was thrown into the roadway and died shortly after he arrived at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

Locke was wearing a helmet.

This was the fifth motorcycle death so far this year, half the number compared to the same period in 2015, the state police said.
