Biddeford residents on Tuesday approved a $35.1 million education budget.

Residents voted 1,117 to 518 in favor of the budget. Voters also overwhelmingly voted to continue holding annual budget validation referendums.

Voters were asked if the budget was too high or too low. While more than 1,000 voters left that question blank, 529 said it was too high and 102 said it was too low.

The budget adds a STEM academy for middle schoolers, a plumbing program for high school students and several teaching positions. It also funds renovation work at the Center of Technology.

The budget does not require a tax increase because of increases in state aid and revenue to the district.
