YORK — Upcoming events at York Public LIbrary include:

Maker Fair

Saturday, June 11, 10 a.m.-3 p.m .

Maker Fair is part science fair, part artisan fair, part technology fair and will appeal to all ages. Crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, artists and community businesses will show off their creations and offer visitors hands-on “maker” experiences. We will have the latest technological devices (3D printers and a green screen) as well as many low-tech options. While many fairs offer great exhibits to look at; our Maker Fair will give participants a chance to try out the range of creative activities that are on display.

Tuesday, June 14, 7 p.m.

York residents Mary Cordo and Barry Tarr will talk and share pictures and video clips of their trip to Antarctica. In January they spent 14 days on an expedition cruise that crossed the Antarctic Circle and sailed along the West Antarctic Peninsula. Barry, a fine art photographer, will share his pictures of this Antarctic landscape of icebergs, glaciers, mountains, clouds, sea and sky and abundant wildlife. He and Mary will talk about their adventures including walking among large penguin colonies, getting up close and personal with seals, cruising alongside a pod of humpback whales, exploring historic research stations, and hiking this remote and incredible Seventh Continent.

In addition, an exhibit of Barry’s photographs will be displayed in the Kennebunk Room throughout June and July. The exhibit is entitled “The Art of Seeing” and will showcase images from his varied portfolio, including his Antarctica photos.
