A Sanford man was arrested on multiple charges after allegedly stealing a car in Alfred, then using a stolen credit card from the vehicle to buy $452 worth of items at two gas stations and a Dunkin’ Donuts.

Maine State Police say Brandon Ingalls, 20, used a credit card stolen during a car burglary on Sanford Road in Alfred to make purchases at 7-Eleven, Cumberland Farms and Dunkin’ Donuts in Sanford. Surveillance footage from the businesses shows Ingalls buying cartons of cigarettes and other items, according to police.

State police were first notified of the vehicle burglary and the theft of a 2003 Infiniti G35 on May 10. The credit card used in Sanford was taken during that burglary, police said. The Infiniti was found four days later on St. Ignatius Street in Sanford. After police obtained DNA evidence from the car, it was returned to the owner undamaged.

Police say they were able to identify Ingalls in the surveillance videos with assistance from the public.

Trooper Adam Schmidt obtained an arrest warrant for Ingalls for burglary of a motor vehicle, unauthorized use of property and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer. Police say Ingalls also faces additional charges, including 12 counts of misuse of identification, burglary of a motor vehicle, violating condition of release and operating after suspension.

Ingalls was arrested on June 5 and taken to the York County Jail, police said.
