Morse reeled off seven unanswered goals in the second half for a 10-4 win over Gardiner in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B girls lacrosse championship game at Thomas College on Saturday.
Trailing 4-3 at the half, the Shipbuilders tied the game on a Paige Daigle goal 34 seconds into the second frame. Isabelle Paulus scored the game-winner with 20:56 remaining, and goals by Amanda Gagne, Noa Sreden, Maddy Olsen, Paulus and Daigle put the game away.
Olsen, Sreden and Madison Savary scored in the first half for Morse, while goaltender Zenaide McCarthy had five saves in the win.
“It was a tough defensive battle,” said Morse co-coach Linda Levesque, who complimented the defensive play from Shipbuilders Emma Rossetti, KK Fifield, Emilie Platteter and Mae Winglass. “They were solid. We dug in, got our passing game going and moved the ball quickly. We tightened up our help defense and communicated well.”
Sreden added two assists, while Isabella Monbouquette had one helper.
Morse returns to action on Wednesday at home in the Class B North quarterfinals against Oceanside. Game time is 6 p.m.
