PORTLAND ( AP) — Police say they have a possible suspect in custody after a man was shot following an altercation in Portland’s West End section.
Lt. James Sweatt says officers were dispatched to the scene on Chadwick Street after police received a call reporting a disturbance and shots fired around 8:30 p.m. Monday.
The victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound at an apartment located about 150 yards from Maine Medical Center. The man was taken to the hospital, where he was undergoing surgery late Monday night. He was listed in serious but stable condition.
Police say the person in custody is cooperating with officers and has not been charged.
The victim and suspect were not identified.
