CAPE ELIZABETH (AP) — A lighthouse billed as the most photographed in the country is under wraps.

The Portland Head Light is surrounded by scaffolding as workers repair cracks in the stone masonry and repaint the beacon that dates to 1791.

The project started on April 23. Inclement weather has pushed the completion to June 17.

Visitors in recent days have been disappointed to see the lighthouse hidden by scaffolding.

Workers say it’ll be pristine when the project is completed. The goal is to complete the project before the height of the summer tourism season.
