Senator George Mitchell has had a long and distinguished career. He served for several years as Chairman of DLA Piper, now Chairman Emeritus. Before that he served as a federal judge; as Majority Leader of the United States Senate; as Chairman of peace negotiations in Northern Ireland which resulted in an agreement that ended an historic conflict; and most recently as U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East. In 2008 Time Magazine described him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
Senator Mitchell is the author of five books. The most recent, a memoir entitled The Negotiator: Reflections on an American Life, was published in May 2015.

Bill Nemitz, a Maine journalist since 1977, has spent the last 21 years as a columnist for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram. His work has taken him to every corner of Maine, as well as to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the aftermaths of the 9/11 attacks in Manhattan, Hurricane Katrina and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.

Bill traveled to Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1998, where he covered the historic ratification of the Good Friday Agreement, brokered by Maine’s former Sen. George J. Mitchell.
