The two Brunswick men wanted in connection with a stabbing in town over the weekend were arrested Wednesday.
According to a Brunswick Police Department press release, Robert W. McKenney, 43, was arrested without incident on Pleasant Street at 9:27 a.m.
Police announced at 1:30 p.m. that Wendall Casler, 38, had also been arrested.
Both men were transported to Cumberland County Jail and are charged with elevated aggravated assault, robbery, aggravated criminal trespass and criminal mischief.
Brunswick Police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said police have been working hard on the case the last couple days and one of the tips they received paid off — police were told McKenney was at an apartment on Pleasant Street where he was found.
Brunswick police also received information that Casler was in Portland, where he was picked up by Portland police.
Bail for McKenney was set at $50,000 cash. He is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County Superior Court on July 19. Hagan said Casler would appear in court the same day.
Bail for Casler was set at $20,000.
Both men remain in custody as of this morning, according to the jail.
Police on Sunday afternoon responded to reports of a male on Market Lane that appeared to have been stabbed. Officers then received a second call and located the injured man in the 7-Eleven parking lot on Maine Street suffering from a stab wound to the arm and chest. The 39-year-old from Cleveland, Ohio, was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland and was released Monday.
Police have since served a search warrant at 19 Market Lane where the assault occurred and recovered several items of evidence. The weapon used in the assault was also located in a separate location.
Police say this was a targeted assault as opposed to a random act.
Hagan declined to release further details regarding Sunday’s incident “for fear of hindering the prosecution.” The incident is still under investigation, he said.
Brunswick police thanked all the assisting law enforcement agencies and members of the public who provided a lot of information over the past three days, which they said helped them to make the two arrests without anyone getting hurt.
