SAN JOSE, Calif. — Martin Jones made 22 saves in his second straight shutout and Tomas Hertl scored twice to give the San Jose Sharks a series lead for the first time in four trips to the Western Conference final with a 3-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues in Game 3 on Thursday night.

Joonas Donskoi also scored to give the Sharks a 2-1 series advantage and move them as close as they have ever been to reaching their first Stanley Cup final. San Jose had won just three games in its first three trips to the conference finals, part of a long history of playoff disappointment that is showing signs of coming to an end.

St. Louis has gone 150:45 without scoring since Jori Lehtera’s second-period goal in Game 1 led to a 2-1 victory.

Game 4 is Saturday in San Jose.

The AHL’s board of governors approved the sale of the Springfield Falcons to the Coyotes on May 10, the Tucson City Council approved a 10-year arena lease agreement between the Coyotes and the Tucson Convention Center on Tuesday and the Coyotes closed on the franchise purchase Wednesday.

The Coyotes are running a contest to name the team that will begin play in October.

The Tucson team will play in the AHL’s Pacific Division.

Tucson has had several minor league franchises, including the Mavericks of the Central Hockey League (1975-76), the Icemen of the Southwest Hockey League (1976-77), the Rustlers of the Professional Hockey League (1978-79) and the Gila Monsters of the West Coast Hockey League (1997-99).

RED WINGS: At least two players won’t be back with the Detroit next season.

General Manager Ken Holland told the Detroit Free Press on Thursday that he told “Brad Richards and Kyle Quincey that I definitely won’t sign them before July 1, if at all.” Both will be unrestricted free agents come July.
