Students Kyle Gagne, Kristina Ames and Althea Puffer plant flowers in Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred on Monday at the grave of World War II veteran Carl Horne of the U.S. Naval Reserve, who was killed at Salerno, Italy on Sept. 28, 1943. The students are part of the Sanford Junior High School “Adopt a Grave” program. They cleaned and decorated the graves of those who died in World War II and the Korean War as part of the Great Works Foundation’s Fallen Veterans Project.
