STANDISH — Troy Bogdahn struck out nine and scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning as Bonny Eagle pulled away for a 9-2 win over previously undefeated Portland in an SMAA baseball game Saturday.
Bonny Eagle (6-4) broke a 2-2 tie with a four-run fifth inning. Kyle Labreque’s two-strike bunt single loaded the bases, and Noah Scribner singled home Bogdahn with the go-ahead run. Arlo Pike followed with another RBI single before a bad throw on Kolby Lambert’s grounder allowed two runs to score.
Pike added a two-run single during a three-run sixth inning.
Jake Knop led Portland (9-1) with three hits, including a home run in the third.
SOUTH PORTLAND 5, SCARBOROUGH 1: Griffin Kelley pitched a three-hitter, allowing just one unearned run to lead the Red Riots (9-1) against Scarborough (7-2) in South Portland.
Nick Troiano singled home Sam Troiano before scoring on an error as South Portland jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Nick Troiano added a two-run single in the fifth for a 4-1 lead.
Sam Troiano finished with three hits, three runs and three stolen bases. Nick Troiano, Ben Conti and Matt Crockett each had two of South Portland’s 11 hits.
THORNTON ACADEMY 8, MARSHWOOD 2: Brogan Searle-Belanger picked up the win and had three hits as the Golden Trojans (8-1) defeated the Hawks (5-6) in South Berwick.
The Hawks took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Holden Jackman. Thornton responded with six runs in the fourth, highlighted by Searle-Belanger’s two-run single.
GORHAM 4, DEERING 0: Logan Drouin allowed only two hits, walked none and struck out six as Gorham (4-6) shut out visiting Deering (4-6).
Gorham took the lead in the first inning. Ben Nelson walked, stole second and scored on Trent Bassingthwaite’s single.
Bassingthwaite and Nelson each finished with three hits.
VALLEY 15, TEMPLE 5: Brandon Thomas had a double, two singles and four RBI to spark the Cavaliers (5-1) to a win over the Bereans (1-6) in Bingham. Luke Malloy also connected two singles and a double and scored three runs.
BOYS’ LACROSSE
CAPE ELIZABETH 9, SOUTH PORTLAND 8: R.J. Sarka bounced a 10-yard shot into the cage with 34 seconds left to give the Capers (7-0) a victory over the Red Riots (3-4) in South Portland.
The goal was Sarka’s second of the match.
James Bottomley led the Capers with three goals and an assist.
Jack Fiorini had three goals and two assists for South Portland.
Red Riots goalie Quinn Watson finished with 14 saves. Alex Navarez made seven saves for Cape.
GREELY 11, CHEVERUS 9: Sam Peck and Ben Kennedy each scored three goals for the Rangers (3-3) in a win over the Stags (5-2) in Cumberland.
Frank Curran paced Cheverus with six goals.
WINDHAM 15, GARDINER 1: Zack Callahan recorded three goals and four assists as the Eagles (7-0) defeated the Tigers (3-5) in Windham.
Tom Lekousi and Tyler Woolston each scored three goals for Windham.
The Tigers’ goal was scored by Tristan Hebert.
FRYEBURG ACADEMY 9, MT. BLUE 2: Evan Caracciolo scored two goals and added three assists to lead the Raiders (5-2) to a victory in Farmington.
Jeremiah Schrader added two goals.
Reed Wells and Liam Welch each scored for Mt. Blue (3-3). Alex Gilbert had 31 saves.
CONY 16, BONNY EAGLE 9: Joel Bennett scored five goals to spark the Rams (8-0) to a win in Standish.
Bret Sproul added four goals and two assists, while Tyler Sproul had three goals and four assists.
EDWARD LITTLE 9, PORTLAND 5: Matt Verrill and Isaac Cote each scored three goals to lead the Red Eddies (4-3) over the Bulldogs (4-4) in Portland.
GIRLS’ LACROSSE
KENNEBUNK 15, MESSALONSKEE 2: Carly Sandler and Jenny Bush each had four goals and two assists as the Rams (6-0) dominated the Eagles (6-1) in a matchup of undefeated teams in Kennebunk.
Gabby Fogg added two goals and an assist, and Kristen Koch also scored twice.
Ally Turner and Lauren Pickett were the only Eagles to score against Kennebunk goalie Isabella Kudas, who finished with five saves.
YORK 14, SOUTH PORTLAND 12: Martha McCaddin, Emma Ford and Aly Lawlor notched four goals each for York (4-3) in a triumph over the Red Riots (5-3) in South Portland.
Lawlor also assisted on three goals, and Ford had two assists.
Maddie Hasson scored six goals for South Portland, while Mary Cronin added two.
FREEPORT 17, CONY 7: Taylor Dostie and Chloe Davidson each scored three goals as the Falcons (3-3) cruised past the Rams (4-3) in Augusta.
Lauren Conniff, Sarah Caron and Kami Lambert got two goals apiece for Cony.
MORSE 11, BIDDEFORD 8: Isabelle Paulus scored three goals to lead the Shipbuilders (6-0) over the Tigers (5-2) in Bath.
Amanda Gagne and Noa Sreden each scored twice for the Shipbuilders. Reannan Larmon recorded seven saves for her first varsity win.
Paige Laverriere led Biddeford with four goals.
EDWARD LITTLE 15, BONNY EAGLE 14: Brooke Lever scored with about a minute remaining to give the Red Eddies (2-5) a win over the Scots (2-6) in Standish.
Francesca-Beth Haines scored nine goals to lead the Red Eddies.
Bonny Eagle got four goals from Jenna Litif and three apiece from Desiree Wright and Natalie Bushey.
SOFTBALL
WINDHAM 13, MARSHWOOD 6: Danielle Tardiff struck out eight and hit two home runs as the Eagles (7-1) defeated the Hawks (5-5) in Windham.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a home run by Olivia Mora. Marshwood tied it in the second inning on an RBI double by Emily Robida, but Tardiff gave Windham a 4-1 advantage with a three-run homer in the fourth. She added a two-run homer in the sixth inning.
TEMPLE 6, VALLEY 2: Jaimee Feugill had three singles and three RBI, and Vanessa Currie contributed a triple, a single and two RBI to spark Temple (4-3) to a win over the Cavaliers (0-6) in Bingham.
