WELLS — The Town of Wells is looking for volunteers seeking to make a difference. Those interested in volunteering may contact the Wells volunteer force coordinator at 361-8130
Opportunities are available in a number of areas including:
• Budget Review Committee – This committee is seeking one regular and two alternate members for review of the municipal budget as prepared by the town manager and to make recommendations to the selectmen during the budget review process and at the annual town meeting. The three-year terms expire in April.
• Recreation Commission – This commission is seeking one alternate member to act as part of an advisory board to the Recreation Department and its policies and programs. It meets one Wednesday evening per month, and there is some sub-committee work. The three-year terms expire in April.
• Zoning Board of Appeals – This board is seeking one regular member and two associate members for hearings and deciding appeals made by aggrieved parties against decisions made by the Code Enforcement Officer and Planning Board. Meetings are the second and fourth Monday of every month. The threeyear terms expire in November.
• Wells Public Library – The library is seeking volunteers for a variety of tasks including shelving books, book sales, processing of materials, clerical tasks, book repairs and more.
• Cable TV-Studio – The studio is seeking operators to air various board meetings in the evenings on the Wells Public Access Channel. Most meetings are held Monday and Tuesday evenings beginning at 7 p.m. Computer and camera control operation skills are necessary; training will be provided.
• Grant Reviewer – The town is seeking an individual who has experience in reviewing and commenting on proposed grants written by town employees to help enhance and increase the town’s ability to successfully obtain grants.
• Recreation Department – The department is seeking volunteers throughout the year to assist with special events, coaching and helping with soccer, youth basketball, gymnastics, as well as other seasonal sports programs.
• Wells Transportation Center Station Hosts – The Transportation Center is seeking volunteers to staff the Downeaster station to assist riders in the mornings, evenings and on weekends.
• Emergency Management Agency – The Wells Emergency Management director is seeking volunteers to train and assist in maintaining the town’s emergency operations plan. Volunteers will respond to town-wide disasters and incidents at the discretion of the EMA director. A one to two hour per week commitment is necessary. Training will be provided.
