The person killed Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision in Turner was identified Tuesday as Christopher L. Tibbetts, 27, of Chesterville.

Tibbetts was driving east on Route 219 when his 2000 black Volkswagen Jetta sedan struck a 2012 Toyota Tundra pickup that was traveling west, according to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.

Tibbetts, who was not wearing his seat belt, appears to have crossed the centerline, striking the pickup. Tibbetts was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck, James S. Wetherell Jr., 30, of Minot, was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he was treated and released.

Maine State Police are reconstructing the accident and investigating the circumstances that led to it, the sheriff’s office said.
