FARMINGTON (AP) — An angry Maine Gov. Paul LePage has cut short an address at the University of Maine at Farmington after being confronted by a pair of students holding signs critical of him and calling the students “idiots.”
The Republican governor was the featured speaker at the dedication of the Theodora J. Kalikow Education Center at UMaine-Farmington.
The Morning Sentinel reports LePage had just stepped up to the podium and started to speak when the students held up the signs, one of which said “LePage Maine’s Shame.” The newspaper quoted LePage as saying, “Thank you you idiots out back there with the signs,” as he walked out of the event.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
