ST. PETERSBURG. Fla. — The Baltimore Orioles reinstated right-hander Kevin Gausman from the 15-day disabled list and optioned infielder Ryan Flaherty to Triple-A Norfolk.
The moves were made before Monday night’s game at Tampa Bay.
Gausman, on the DL since opening day with a right shoulder strain, was scheduled to make his first start of the season against the Rays.
Flaherty, a Portland native, is 2 for 10 in four games this season.
YANKEES: Alex Rodriguez says he feels good a day after coming out of a game because of stiffness in his left side.
Rodriguez wasn’t in the lineup for the New York Yankees for their series opener Monday night at Texas.
In Sunday’s 8-1 home loss to Tampa Bay, Rodriguez drove in New York’s run with a fourth-inning double that snapped a 1-of-18 slide.
Rodriguez was pulled for a pinch-hitter in the sixth after he felt something amiss in his lower back.
MARINERS: Seattle placed right-handed reliever Joaquin Benoit on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right shoulder.
Seattle made the roster move Monday before opening a three-game series against Houston, retroactive to April 22.
The Mariners recalled right-hander Mayckol Guaipe from Triple-A Tacoma to take Benoit’s roster spot.
Benoit has been Seattle’s main reliever in the eighth inning this season, but was unavailable for a couple of games earlier this month due to the shoulder issue.
INDIANS: Starter Carlos Carrasco could miss six weeks because of a strained left hamstring, a significant blow to Cleveland’s staff.
Carrasco got hurt while covering first base in the third inning of his start Sunday in Detroit. He returned to Cleveland for an MRI, which the team said revealed a moderate strain. The right-hander, who had a breakout 2015 with 14 wins, will be out for at least one month.
Cleveland also activated star outfielder Michael Brantley, who had been on the disabled list since the start of the season after right shoulder surgery in October.
TWINS: Center fielder Byron Buxton was sent back to the minors after the organization’s top prospect had another rough start at the plate. Buxton, 22, is batting .156 with 24 strikeouts in 45 at-bats. He also struggled to hit in his 46-game debut last season.
ROCKIES: Colorado reinstated catcher Nick Hundley from the disabled list and optioned struggling right-hander Jordan Lyles to Triple-A Albuquerque. Hundley has been out since mid-April with a concussion.
REDS: Right fielder Jay Bruce went on the three-day paternity list and right-handed reliever Layne Somsen was called up from Triple-A Louisville. Bruce leads the Reds with 15 RBI and is hitting .265 with four home runs.
He’s in Houston this week with wife Hannah for the birth of their first child.
