An Aroostook County man is in custody after allegedly shooting two people in separate incidents early Sunday in Duxbury, Massachusetts.

Duxbury police said Lucas McPherson, 25, of Mapleton was arrested after two people were shot in what appear to be random incidents.

Police said the first victim, a 33-year-old Marshfield man, was traveling along Tremont Street in Duxbury at 1:15 a.m. Sunday near the Town Hall when he was shot by someone in a passing vehicle.

The man, who was shot in the abdomen, drove himself to the nearby Duxbury fire station for help, police said.

About 20 minutes later, as police were investigating the first shooting, they spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area. Duxbury police tried to make contact with the driver, but the vehicle sped away.

The police briefly lost visual contact with the car, a Chevy Impala with temporary Maine registration plates, but found it a few seconds later stopped in front of a home.

As the police neared the car, a resident approached them to report he had just been shot by the occupant of the car.

The driver of the car again tried to flee but was blocked in by the Duxbury police cruiser.

McPherson, the operator, approached the officer with a hunting knife as the officer tried to arrest him, police said. The officer used a Taser to subdue McPherson.

Police said they found a shotgun inside McPherson’s car that is believed to have been used in both shootings.

The man who was shot in the second incident was letting his dog out when the man pulled in front of the home and shot him.

Both shooting victims were taken to a hospital in Plymouth, Massachusetts, with non-life threatening injuries.

McPherson is scheduled for arraignment Monday at Plymouth District Court.
