Gray Fire & Rescue crews worked quickly Thursday afternoon to extinguish a fire that started in the yard of a home at 8 Main Street in downtown Gray.
The property sits behind the McDonald’s restaurant as well as the Cumberland Farms gas station. According to homeowner Jeanne Adams, a garage and two vehicles suffered substantial damage from the fire, which she said started in dry mulch located near the McDonald’s end of the property and spread about 200 feet to the garage.
Adams said the fire started at around 1 p.m. and that no one was hurt and that the home was spared. Fire crews were still at the scene at about 3 p.m. cleaning up, she said. Main Street was shut down and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
