Kate Hall of Casco signed a letter of intent Monday with the University of Georgia and will transfer from Iowa State in the fall, said her mother, Jen Hall.
Hall, a freshman at Iowa State, chose to redshirt (or sit out of collegiate competition) this outdoor track season to compete in open competitions and train for the Olympic trials, which she qualified for last spring.
While competing last year for Lake Region High School in Naples, Hall broke a 39-year-old high school record by leaping 22 feet, 5 inches on her final jump at the New Balance high school outdoor nationals to win the national long jump title and pass the Olympic trials qualifying standard of 21-11. Hall was home-schooled but competed for Lake Region.
But this indoor season, Hall fell short of her goal to become an All-American at her first NCAA championships.
At the Division I indoor meet in Birmingham, Alabama, Hall entered the long jump ranked fifth and failed to reach the finals, settling for 12th place after jumping 20-1 in three jumps.
Hall also qualified for the NCAAs in the 60 meters with a time of 7.30 seconds, but her coach advised her to forgo the 60 to focus on the long jump.
