Fryeburg police arrested a local man Sunday evening in connection with a domestic violence assault that allegedly took place in this western Maine town.
Police Chief Joshua Potvin said 33-year-old Ryan P. Brown is charged with felony domestic assault and a misdemeanor charge of refusing to submit to arrest or detention. Brown was taken to the Oxford County Jail in South Paris where he was being held on $3,000 cash bail.
Potvin said police officers responded to a call for assistance at 3 Pierson Road around 10 p.m. When police arrived, Brown fled the home. After a brief chase and a scuffle with an officer, he was taken into custody.
The victim is a 51-year-old woman. Brown is scheduled to appear in Bridgton District Court on May 10.
“Domestic assault investigations pose a significant risk to responding officers due to the heightened emotional state of those involved,” Potvin said in a statement. “I am pleased this situation was resolved without significant injuries to the arrestee or my officers.”
