Swimmers from Maine this week set eight individual and five relay state records and one national record at the 2016 YMCA Short Course Nationals of swimming in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Caitlin Tycz, a junior at Brunswick High, set a national record of 52.43 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly. She also set a state record of 1:58.00 in the 200 butterfly.
Ann Tolan, a senior at Morse High, set state records of 23.19 in the 50 free and 51.08 in the 100 free. Nate Samson, a senior at Brunswick, set state records of 48.34 in the 100 butterfly and 1:50.40 in the 200 individual medley. Bangor sophomore Colby Prouty set two state breast stroke records, of 56.35 for 100 yards and 2:04.58 for 200.
Tycz and Tolan teamed with Lynsie Russell of Brunswick and Sonia Lin of North Yarmouth Academy for state records in the 200 medley relay (1:43.51) and 400 MR (3:48.74).
Emma Blair of Brunswick joined Tycz, Tolan and Russell for record-setting relays in the 200 free (1:33.16) and 400 free (3:30.73) and teamed with Russell, Tolan and Tycz for a record 7:43.68 in the 800 free relay.
