PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services is expanding its study into a pediatric cancer cluster in the Seacoast area.

The Portsmouth Herald reports that state Rep. Thomas Sherman, a Rye Democrat, said Wednesday that officials are going to look at more cancer cases as research continues.

The department is also checking into additional reports of two rare pediatric cases that it’s studying in the communities of Portsmouth, Rye, New Castle, Greenland and North Hampton.

A 14-year-old North Hampton boy’s death from a rare form of cancer led to state officials’ recent acknowledgement of the pediatric cancer cluster in the Seacoast area.

Sherman says DHHS officials are developing a questionnaire that’s specific to the cancer cluster. He says he isn’t clear on who would receive it.
