New population estimates from the U. S. Census Bureau indicate that rural areas are losing residents at a rapid rate, but on the statewide level, stronger growth in Cumberland and York counties is making up the difference.

The Census Bureau estimates that Maine as a whole had a population of 1,329,328 in 2015. That represents a gain of 967 residents since the 2010 Census.
