BRUNSWICK

The Brunswick Parks and Recreation Department hosted the Fifth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament recently, with 11 teams participating.

In the championship, Brunswick took on Westbrook, with the Blue Blazes coming away with a 48-42 over the hosts.

Westbrook led 14-10, 21-19 and 34-26 at the quarter breaks.

Quincy Seavey had a team-high 20 points in the win, including 11 in the third quarter. Carter Dow chipped in 13.

Thomas Harvey had a huge game for Brunswick, scoring a whopping 34 points. He drained six 3-pointers. Luke Vasdauskas chipped in six points.

At the free-throw line, Brunswick was 3-of-9 and Westbrook 4-of-11.

Here is a look at the other tournament games:

Ararat 39, G-NG 20

Ararat jumped out to a 12-5 lead and pulled away from there for the first-round win.

Lucas Holman picked up 14 points and Parker Bate 12 in the victory, and Ararat was 7- of-13 at the line.

Gray-New Gloucester, which trailed 20-10 at the half and 32-11 after three, received 11 points from Brady Kenny and went 8-of-19 at the charity stripe.

Brunswick 27, Cape Elizabeth 22

Harvey had 11 points as Brunswick held off Cape Elizabeth.

Brunswick led 7-4, 10-7 and 22-17 at the breaks. Caden Slater chipped in four points.

Curtis Sullivan paced the Capers with nine points, with six coming from Will Fibich.

At the charity stripe, Brunswick was 7-of-18 and Cape 8-of-18.

G-NG 25, Lisbon 21

Lisbon held the Patriots scoreless in the fourth quarter, but managed just two points in falling.

Mikey Ryan had a game-high 12 points for G-NG, with Kenny chipping in seven.

Lisbon, which led 7-5 after a quarter before trailing 14-11 and 25-19 at the next two quarter breaks, received seven points from Levi Tibbetts and four from Chase Mailhot.

Lisbon made its lone free throw, while the Patriots were 1-of-22.

Westbrook 42, Winslow 32

Westbrook out-scored Winslow, 18-8, in the fourth quarter for the win.

Westbrook led 14-8 and 18-13 at the first two quarter breaks, but Winslow battled back to forge a 24-24 deadlock after three.

Seavey had 16 points, while Alex Bean, Dow and Ben Eugley added six points each.

Jason Reynolds had a game-high 19 points in the loss.

At the line, Westbrook was 6- of-16 and Winslow 8-of-12.

Wells 29, Winthrop 16

Wells darted out to a 9-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back.

Wells led 18-6 and 27-10 at the next two breaks, paced by Aiden Green’s eight points.

Tyler Smith and Jacob Burrows had four points apiece for Winthrop.

Wells was 5-of-8 at the line and Winthrop 6-of-16.

Brunswick 40, Ararat 38

In a matchup of “Battle of the Bridge” rivals, Brunswick held off a fourth-quarter Ararat rally for the victory.

Brunswick led 10-5, 18-14 and 31-23 at the quarter breaks, and Ararat out-scored the Huskies 15-9 in the fourth to get close.

Harvey had 15 points in the win, while Dalton Armstrong put in eight and Jack Nussbaum six. Brunswick was 1-of-1 at the line.

Bate paced Ararat with 14 points, followed by Jacob Haskell with 10. Ararat was 6- of-13 at the charity stripe.

Auburn/Lewiston 42, Lisbon 38

Auburn/Lewiston held a 6-2 scoring edge in overtime to advance.

Lisbon led throughout, holding 14-6, 21-16 and 29-22 advantages. But, Auburn/Lewiston battled back, tying the game at 36 after regulation.

Connor Leclerc had four of his 10 points in the overtime to lead the win, while Marshal Adams and Caed Langely had nine points apiece.

Tibbetts powered Lisbon with 11 points, with Owen Smith adding six.

Auburn/Lewiston struggled to a 4-for-30 showing at the line, while Lisbon made 2- of-4.

Westbrook 45, Wells 32

In the first of two semifinal contests, Westbrook pulled away in the fourth quarter for the win.

The game was tight for three quarters, with Wells leading 9-8 and 18-17 at the first two quarter breaks before Westbrook claimed a 27-26 advantage after three.

Dow and Seavey led the way with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Westbrook was 13-of-28 at the line.

Gavyn Petrie paced Wells with 12 points.

Brunswick 32, Auburn/Lewiston 18

Brunswick kept Auburn/Lewiston off the scoreboard in the third quarter in advancing to the title game.

The Huskies led 10-2 and 18- 10 at the first two quarter breaks. The lead ballooned to 25-10 after three.

Jarod Similien had a game-high nine points for Brunswick, with Harvey adding seven.

Leclerc paced Auburn/Lewiston with seven points, followed by Seth Leighton with five.

Both teams were 4-of-8 at the line.

Cape Elizabeth 39, G-NG 37

Fibich scored four points in the second overtime to lift the Capers past the Patriots in a consolation contest.

The teams went back and forth, with G-NG leading 10-7 after a quarter, but trailing 18- 16 at the half and 25-22 after three. The game was tied at 29 after regulation and again at 33 through the first overtime.

Antonio Dellaquila had 13 points for Cape, with Curtis Sullivan adding eight.

Ryan led G-NG with 14 points, followed by Kenny with nine.

Winslow 42, Ararat 31

Andrew Poulin popped for 20 points to lead Winslow to a win.

Winslow, which led 10-5, 22- 13 and 33-23 at the breaks, also received 12 points from Caleb Marquis.

Holman had nine points and Bate nine for Ararat, which was 5-of-9 at the line.

Lisbon 32, Winthrop 19

Tibbetts led the way with 15 points as Lisbon cruised to a win.

Lisbon led 10-5, 16-11 and 24- 17 at the breaks.

Canaan Cameron picked up six points for the Greyhounds, while Keegan Francis led Winthrop with six points.
