CLAREMONT, Calif. — The Bowdoin College men’s tennis team wasted little time earning its first victory of the 2016 season with a 9-0 triumph in its season-opener Monday over Trinity in California.
The Polar Bears are ranked ninth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association national poll.
Bowdoin got on the board early in doubles play as the No. 3 duo of Gil Roddy and Chase Savage netted an 8-2 win. Luke Trinka and Luke Tercek doubled Bowdoin’s lead with an 8-3 win at No. 1, and Kyle Wolfe/Jerry Jiang sent the Polar Bears to singles with a sweep following an 8-5 win at No. 2.
In singles play, Bowdoin lost just one set in six matches en route to the win. Tercek dominated in a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1, as did Trinka (6-3, 6-0) at No. 2. Wolfe (4-6, 6-2, 7-5) mounted a comeback win at No. 3, while Jiang, Roddy and Grant Urken completed the shutout with straight-set wins.
Bowdoin takes on 18thranked Whitman on Wednesday at Claremont- Mudd-Scripps.
