BRUNSWICK — The 12th-ranked Bowdoin College Polar Bears raced out to an 11-0 halftime lead on their way to a 15-3 non-conference women’s lacrosse victory over the University of New England Tuesday evening (March 8) at Ryan Field.
Lindsay Picard scored four times to lead the attack for the Polar Bears (1-1). Megan O’Connor contributed three goals, while Hannah Hirschfeld and Sophia Lubrano chipped in with two apiece.
Korinne Bohunsky netted a pair of markers and Brooke Kelleher tallied once to account for UNE’s scoring.
Picard scored three of her four goals before halftime for Bowdoin, which finished the match with a significant lead in shots (37-7), draw controls (14-5) and ground balls (14-9). She also added a gamehigh five draw controls. Kayli Weiss earned the win in goal for the Polar Bears, playing a scoreless first half.
Bohunsky paced UNE (2-2) in draw controls with three, while Kyra Taylor led all players with four ground balls. Starting goalkeeper Lauryn Huck piled up 11 saves in the first half before giving way to Courtney Kendall, who totaled five stops after intermission.
The Nor’easters will host Bridgewater State University on Friday. Start time at the Big Blue Turf is slated for 4 p.m.
