“Watch and pray that you enter not into temptation.” Matthew 26:41

Resisting Temptation

Temptations are sure to come, and they are not just once in a while events. We are faced with temptation day in and day out, and when we resist temptation it is a victory. It firms up our faith and strengthens our spiritual muscles. God tests those whom he wishes to use in special ways, and most of the time we are tempted through our gifts, which we may be inclined to use to control others, and not serve one another as God would have us do. It is where we are the strongest that we must forever be on guard. Jesus went into the desert to be alone with God, to be tested and strengthened for ministry. From the beginning to the end Jesus had to fight his own battles against temptation, and he is always there to help us fight ours. He has embraced what it means to be human. The desert is where we come face to face with God. It is a place to reflect and repent and shake off the heaviness of the world. So as we journey together through Lent let us remember that we are not alone. Jesus has been there. He knows what it is like. He will walk with us. We will not get lost.
