
Some of those ills are scheduled to be cured this construction season. The Maine Department of Transportation has released its three-year work plan, which includes projects that are firmly funded and others that are in the planning stages.
Here’s a look at some York County MDOT projects scheduled for this year:
• Arundel and Kennebunk will see replacement of Bartlett Bridge over the Kennebunk River on Route 1 that marks the town lines between the two communities, a $2.3 million project. There will also be $65,000 in structural maintenance performed on the Days Mills bridge on Route 35 in Arundel.
• At Biddeford Municipal Airport, MDOT has funded $515,000 in safety and infrastructure improvements for navigation aids or lights that may also include land acquisition and obstruction removal.
• In Biddeford, the state has earmarked $750,000 for resurfacing the B&M Railroad Bridge on Precourt Street; $520,000 for new floats, moorings, power pedestals, a pumpout facility and restrooms with showers and laundry facilities at Rumery’s Boat Yard; and $1.5 million for highway construction and rehabilitation on Lincoln Street in partnership with the city.
• Biddeford, Dayton and Lyman will see $121,000 worth of highway paving on South Street, starting at Route 35 and extending south into Biddeford 3.27 miles.
• A $1.2 million highway safety and spot improvement program along Route 1 begins at South Street in Biddeford and extends two miles into Saco.
• In Buxton, Hollis and beyond into Cumberland County, $419,999 has been earmarked for light highway paving on Route 35 beginning in Hollis and extending 11.34 miles.
• In Cornish, motorists will see work on the intersection of Route 25 and South Hiram Road to the tune of $120,000. MDOT will also spend $75,000 on safety and spot improvements on Route 5 between Cornish and Limerick.
• In Dayton, $2.5 million has been funded for a roundabout to improve the intersection of Routes 5 and 35, Hight Road and Clarks Mills Road.
• MDOT has set aside $125,000 for ditching projects in Dayton, Hollis, the Kennebunks and Limington.
• In Hollis, $600,000 will fund culvert replacement at Route 202 and Route 4 at Bradbury Bridge.
• In Kennebunk, $20,750 has been set aside for engineering of drainage and pedestrian safety improvements on Factory Pasture Lane and Depot Street as part of a larger highway improvement by the town.
• In Kennebunk and Wells, $663,000 is earmarked for paving 2.76 miles of Route 9 starting in Wells.
• In Kennebunkport, $550,000 is earmarked for replacement and expansion of the government pier, including pilings, a fender pile, an extension and bait building. In addition, $2.7 million is earmarked to replace the Matthew J. Lanigan bridge on Route 9 on the Kennebunk- Kennebunkport town line, and $600,000 will go toward a municipal partnership project to widen and pave part of North Street.
• Replacement of Stinson Bridge over the Little Ossipee River on Route 5 on the Limerick-Waterboro town line is funded at $2.7 million.; $1.8 million is earmarked for mill and fill paving on Route 11 in Limerick and Limington.
• About $281,000 is earmarked for paving 7.6 miles of South Waterboro Road, starting at Route 202 in Waterboro and extending into Lyman.
• Workers will paint Dam’s Mills Bridge over the Little Ossipee River on Bridge Street in Newfield, funded at $200,000.
• In Old Orchard Beach and Saco, $323,000 is earmarked for paving Route 98 starting at Ross Road.
• In Parsonsfield, $187,000 is set aside for paving Merrill Hill Road; $16,500 for repairing railings, curbs and retaining walls on Glidden Meadow Bridge over Province Lake on Route 153; and $54,200 for repairing Porter Bridge, which carries Route 160 over the Ossipee River.
• In Saco, $70,000 is expected to fund a joint Maine Turnpike Authority and MDOT evaluation of existing traffic conditions and deficiencies around the Route 112 interchange.
• In Sanford, $215,000 is earmarked for engineering parts of Route 202 starting at Lafayette Street; $30,000 is earmarked for bridge railing repair on Powers Bridge on Route 4.
• In Shapleigh, $232,000 is earmarked for paving parts of West Road beginning at Newfield Road in Shapleigh and extending 6.28 miles into Waterboro.
• In Wells, $1.3 million is set aside to pave part of Route 1 starting just north of the Ogunquit town line and extending north 3.72 miles. In addition, $165,000 will go toward safety improvements at the intersection of Route 1 and Chapel Road.
Various other projects for paving and sealing, trail projects and industrial rail access projects have been funded statewide, but their locations have not been spelled out in the work plan.
