A Windham man was injured Sunday when the van he was driving went out of control on Bakerstown Road, rolled down an embankment and struck a utility pole, breaking it in half, police said.
Joseph Grant III, 38, was driving west in a 2009 Ford cargo van owned by Dead River Co. when he lost control of the vehicle, according to Sgt. Tim Kachnovich of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department.
Because the broken pole was hanging over the vehicle, Poland firefighters had to wait nearly an hour for Central Maine Power to make it safe for them to extricate Grant, who was trapped in the van.
Grant was flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by LifeFlight helicopter, Kachnovich said in a news release. Grant’s injuries were not life-threatening, the sergeant said.
Bakerstown Road, also known as Route 11, was closed for about an hour after the 2:20 p.m. crash, he said.
