Nyagoa Bayak, Westbrook indoor track: The freshman won the high jump at the state meet with a Class A record jump of 5-7. The height equaled Bayak’s best, which ranks first in New England and sixth in the nation among high school high jumpers.

HONORABLE MENTION

Caitlin Tycz, Brunswick swimming: Tycz, a junior, led Brunswick to the Class A title. She set pool and state records in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.32 seconds, won the 200 individual medley in 2:06.23, and anchored Brunswick’s winning 200 free relay and 400 free relay (state-record time of 3:39.10).

Ann Tolan, Morse swimming: The junior was named Performer of the Meet at the Class B state meet after winning the 50 and 100 freestyle. She defended her 50 freestyle title with a state record of 23.39, which was also a Bowdoin College pool record. She won the 100 freestyle in 51.49.

Emily Esposito, Gorham basketball: The junior scored 21 points, including the 1,000th of her career, to lead the unbeaten Rams to a 60-28 Class AA South semifinal win against Bonny Eagle.

BOYS

Michael O’Donovan, Cheverus swimming: A senior, O’Donovan won the 200 and 500 freestyle and swam on victorious 200 and 400 free relays to lead Cheverus to a fourth straight Class A state title, joining Bangor as the only Class A boys’ team with such a streak. O’Donovan plans to continue his career at Marist College.

HONORABLE MENTION

Jake Martel, Noble wrestling: Martel used three first-period pins to win the 126-pound Class A state title in his home gym, finishing with a 34-second pin of Skowhegan’s Samson Sirois, the North champion.

Justin Stacy, Marshwood wrestling: Stacy, a senior, scored two first-period pins, then won the 182-pound class at the Class A championships with an 8-5 decision over North champ Logan Stevens of Skowhegan.

Sam Rusak, Scarborough indoor track: At the Class A state meet, Rusak won the high jump (6-2) and pole vault (15-6), and placed sixth in the 400 (52.30) to lift the Red Storm to the team title. Rusak’s best vault this season, 15-9, ranks him fourth all-time in New England and ties him for first in New England this year.
