LISBON

Lisbon Emergency, Inc. has received a grant for a LifePak 15 monitor/defibrillator from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

A LifePak 15 is a piece of equipment that Lisbon Emergency stated it will utilize on a daily basis. The LifePak 15 is a cardiac monitor and defibrillator and can help detect irregular heart rhythms in patients. Among other uses, LifePak 15 can defibrillate a patient in cardiac arrest.

The equipment “has potential to save many lives in our community,” according to a Lisbon Emergency press release. “Patient care has improved greatly because of the generosity of Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.”

“When you respond to emergencies you need the most advanced monitor/defibrillator that is easy to operate, rugged and can stand up to weather, cold, wind, rain and other typical EMS field environments,” said Deputy Chief Eveson in the release. “This LifePack 15 allows us to defibrillate (shock) cardiac arrest patients as well as monitor Cardiac Rhythms and perform lifesaving procedures and interventions for the various Cardiac Arrhythmias it can detect. It also allows the versatility of being able to transmit Cardiac strips to Doctors in the ER to activate the Catheterization lab for Patients presenting with Myocardial infarctions (Heart attacks). This technology allows us to not only do our job, but do our job better.”

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation awards grants to public safety organizations through a competitive application and review process. The foundation allocates funding in five distinct areas: Life-Saving Equipment, Prevention Education, Scholarships and Continued Education, Support for Members of the Military and Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Relief.

Lisbon Emergency was founded in 1976 and in 1978 was incorporated as a nonprofit ambulance service, 501c3. The service is made up of 13 EMTs, four A-EMTs and 11 paramedics. Lisbon Emergency serves 11,000 people living in Lisbon, Lisbon Falls and Bowdoin.
