Mosquito control strategy

Wildlife researcher Noah Perlut will lead a presentation on how to control mosquitoes by planting gardens and attracting wildlife at noon Tuesday at Merryspring Nature Center at 30 Conway Road.

This lecture is part of the Winter Talk series.

Free family concert

Award-winning children’s entertainer Matt Loosigian will perform a free family concert at noon Tuesday at the Kittery Community Center at 120 Rogers Road.

A Brunswick-based folk singer, guitarist and songwriter, Loosigian specializes in playful songs about ecology and being green.

Southern Maine Garden Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Springvale Library at 443 Maine St.

Guest speaker Chris Bozack, owner of Berry Best Farm in Lebanon, will give a lesson in growing blueberries, raspberries and peaches. Guests are welcome to attend.

Professional dog trainer Jean Conte will kick off two new canine training series from Thursday to March 24 at the Lincoln Home.

Those interested in obtaining a pet therapy certification will meet at 5 p.m. Thursdays and those interested in participating in Canine Good Citizens classes will meet at 6:30 p.m.

Stereoscope, photo program

Stereoscopes and early photography will be the subject of a program presented by the Windham Historical Society at 9 am. Saturday at Windham Public Library.

Ralph Hatt of Westbrook will share his knowledge and display his collection of early stereoscopes, precursor of the Viewmaster.

Art, health, music at library

York Public Library will host the following events this week at 15 Long Sands Road:

“The Seeing of the Thing: the Art and Teaching of Charles Woodbury,” a talk and slide show at 7 p.m. Tuesday by contemporary artist and writer Christopher Volpe.

A talk about kidney stones at noon Friday with Dr. Chad Wotkowicz as part of the Lunch and Learn program sponsored by York Hospital. Call 351-2385 to register.

Dinners to benefit museum

The Brick Store Museum’s board of trustees invites the community to join them for dinner.

Trustees will host themed dinners at their homes or the museum to raise funds for the museum’s 2016 initiatives.

The first dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the home of Christopher Farr, featuring a hearty winter meal and a lively discussion of 1950s fashion.

Tickets are $60 per person. Seats at each table are limited for these events, and reservations are required by calling 985-4802 or going to brickstoremuseum.org/trusteedinners.
