SANFORD — The Sanford Mainers recently introduced Tom Porter as their new Director of Broadcasting and Media.
Porter, a Rhode Island native, is expected to graduate from the University of Rhode Island in May with a B.A. in both History and Journalism.
The 21-year-old is no stranger to the New England Collegiate Baseball League. He spent the last two summers working as the play-by-play broadcaster for the New Bedford Bay Sox. During his time with the Bay Sox he hosted the pre-game and postgame shows, while also conducting interviews with players and coaches for broadcast on the NECBL Broadcast Network.
At the University of Rhode Island, Porter is the General Manager at 90.3 WRIU, the largest noncommercial radio station in the Ocean State. At WRIU he has been the voice of Rams softball since 2013, and the voice of Rams baseball since 2014. Porter has also served as the lead play-by-play broadcaster for URI basketball for the last two seasons.
Porter also worked as a fill-in broadcaster for Learfield Sports and Rhody Sports Properties, covering play-by-play duties for the final Rams football game of the season.
In addition, Porter covered the URI baseball team for the campus newspaper.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
