Gloria Jean entertains

Windham Veterans Association will hold a Valentine’s Day bean supper followed by a dance on Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Veterans Center on Memorial Drive, in back of Windham Mall. Dinner is at 5 p.m., and Gloria Jean and her band provide music from 7-10 p.m. Dinner only is $8; dance only is $10; Dinner/Dance is $15. Tickets at the door. Valentine’s Day

On Saturday, Feb. 13, “Love Letters” by A.R. Gurney will be presented by Windham Center Stage Theater. This will be a one-night-only performance starring Paul Menezes and Carmella Castro. The play follows the lives of two friends through the exchange of letters, making it clear how much they meant, and gave, to each other over the years – physically apart, but spiritually close. Performance will be at 7 p.m. at 8 School Road (Windham Town Hall). Tickets are $15; $10 for seniors. Winter Book Sale

Here’s a great chance to stock up on winter reading – wherever you’re spending the season, having a good book close by is a good idea. On Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 13 ad 14, a Winter Book Sale will be held at Windham Hill United Church of Christ. Hours are from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday. The sale will be downstairs in Fellowship Hall. For more information, call 892-4217.

Stereoscopes and photography

Stereoscopes and early photography will be the subject of a program presented by Windham Historical Society at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20, at Windham Public Library. Ralph Hatt of Westbrook will share his knowledge and display his collection of early stereoscopes, precursor of the “Viewmaster.” The public is invited to attend. There’s plenty of parking and the site is handicapped accessible. The suggested donation of $5 will help the nonprofit historical society. Refreshments will be available. Bean Bag Bash, Take 2

On Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m., the Windham Public Library will hold Bean Bag Bash, Take 2. School-aged children will be sewing their own bean bags, and then enjoy a variety of fun bean bag activities afterward. There will be an additional craft of making a bean mosaic. On Friday, Feb. 19, at 1 p.m., a Record Breaking Event will be held in the Windham Public Library. This event is open to school age children. All kinds of unusual and funny records will be broken by using coordination skills, intelligence and speed. The event will end with setting Windham Public Library’s first record! Cancer support

A daytime Cancer Support Group is forming in cooperation with the Cancer Community Center, at Unity, 54 River Road, Windham, on the third Friday (Feb. 19) of each month from 1:30-2:30 p.m. This is open to everyone who has been affected by cancer, (themselves, friends, family and caregivers). Community Cafe? needs volunteers

Southern Maine Agency on Aging is seeking volunteers who will help in the Community Cafe?s in a variety of ways including setting tables, preparing and serving precooked meals. Volunteers work in the mornings of Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Fridays for whatever hours they can. Training is provided. Call 1-800-427-7411 for more information.

Blood donors

Are you a registered local Red Cross blood donor? Please consider making an appointment to give blood at the Windham Veterans Center on Wednesday, April 27. The blood drive is co-sponsored by the Windham Veterans Association, American Legion Post 148, VFW Post 10643 and by Coldwell Banker.
