Boys Southwesterns may have suffered hitches and more hitches, going off successfully, but Saturday, Feb. 6, saw the girls’ action proceed swimmingly, pun intended. On the South side of things, 12 squads clashed, with Kennebunk finishing first and Massabesic second.

Girls South Southwesterns Team Scores:

1. Kennebunk, 311; 2. Massabesic, 220; 3. Yarmouth, 159; 4. Thornton, 152; 5. Sanford, 150; 6. Gorham, 123; 7. Portland, 71; 8. Waynflete, 62; 9. Windham, 36; 10. Bonny Eagle, 32; 11. Marshwood, 26; 12. Biddeford, 1

Bonny Eagle reeled in points in a handful of events, but looked strongest in the relays. The 200 Medley Relay outfit finished eighth, for instance. Similarly, the 200 Free Relay outfit finished ninth and the 400 Free Relay squad claimed eighth.

Megan Roy took 11th in the 100 Free, and Maho Teramoto picked up a pair of points with an 11th-place in the 100 Breaststroke.

“My Bonny Eagle girls team of 11 – that day…we were missing two – worked very hard to achieve better times,” said Scots coach Morgan Gryskwicz. “Many of them finished first in their heats, with the wonderful success of dropping seconds – as much as eight seconds – within their events. My co-coach, David Gryskwicz, and I couldn’t be more proud of them!”

Over in the Windham camp, the Eagles finished seventh as a unit in the 200 Medley Relay, and the 200 Free Relay took eighth. Maelah Nadeau picked up a point for the team by taking 12th in the 200 Individual Medley, and three more with a 10th-place finish in the 100 Fly. Taylor Colangelo took seventh in the 50 Free and Elizabeth Lucas placed 12th in the 500 Free.
