This year the Cape Farm Alliance has taken over putting on the annual community lobster stew dinner, which was traditionally offered by members of the Cape Elizabeth Fire Department.

The dinner will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27, with two seatings of 75 people each – one at 5 and the other at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are going fast and will not be offered after Feb. 21.

Town Councilor Caitlin Jordan, who is also a member of the Cape Farm Alliance, said this week the group decided to keep offering the lobster stew dinner because many of the town’s farmers were also members of the volunteer fire department.

And, she said, “We have (also) been talking about doing another event like the Strawberry Festival for a few years now, and then one night we were talking about the lobster stew dinner and one thing led to another.”

Jordan added, “So much of what makes Cape Elizabeth great is its dedication to its historical roots and tradition, and we wanted to give a little of that back.”

The goal, according to Jordan, is to keep this year’s dinner as similar to past dinners as possible. However, this time around the farm alliance will be using all locally sourced ingredients for the lobster stew.

“(We’ll use) Maine milk, Kate’s Butter and Cape Elizabeth lobster,” she said.

In addition, The Good Table restaurant will be providing biscuits, and members and supporters of the Cape Farm Alliance will be providing homemade pies.

Jordan said proceeds from the lobster stew dinner would go toward farm alliance programs while also “helping us continue to implement our mission.”

In terms of what attendees can expect, she said it’s all about creating “a sense of community. An incredible sense of community develops when sharing a meal with each other, (which is also) prepared and served by (other) community members.”

The announcement for the dinner adds another incentive:

“What better way to chase away the winter blues than with some rich, divinely delicious lobster stew? Made fresh from locally caught lobsters and served up alongside homemade biscuits and an array of incredible, farm-baked pies.”
