Two Sanford residents were arrested on drug trafficking charges following an investigation of heroin distribution from a motel room.

A joint investigation of suspected drug trafficking in the Sanford area by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Sanford Police Department showed that Danny G. Taylor, 27, and Christine Butler, 39, were allegedly selling heroin from a room they rented at the Super 8 Motel on Route 109.

On Monday, drug agents and Sanford police searched the motel room and seized 25 grams of heroin and $3,450 in cash, according to MDEA Commander Scott Pelletier. The seized heroin was equivalent to 250 individual doses with a street value of $4,000.

As police entered the room, Taylor attempted to throw a bag containing 18 grams of heroin out of the window, Pelletier said.

Butler was already known to agents because she was out on bail for three separate drug trafficking-related charges. Taylor also had an outstanding arrest warrant for unpaid fines, according to police.

Butler and Taylor are each charged with aggravated trafficking in heroin, a Class A felony punishable by up to 30 years in jail and a $50,000 fine. They were taken to York County Jail in Alfred, where Taylor’s bail was set at $10,000 cash. Butler is being held without bail pending her appearance before a judge.
