Party candidates for state and county offices have just a little more than a month to get nomination signatures to be eligible for the June 14 primary.

While it is likely that not all who are running have registered their intent with the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices, a look at the list Monday showed some races have no candidates, and most races have only one candidate. But that could change as the registration deadline approaches.

Deadline for party candidates to file nomination papers in to the Secretary of State’s Office is 5 p.m. March 15. Non-party candidates have until 5 p.m. June 1 to file nomination papers, according to the 2016 candidates guide produced by the Secretary of State’s Office.

There are openings for two York County Commissioners: One in District 4, which includes Alfred, Lyman, Sanford, Shapleigh and Waterboro, and another in District 5, which includes Wells, Ogunquit, Eliot, Kittery and York, as well as judge of probate and register of probate.

So far, the sole candidate who has registered with the ethics commission is incumbent District 4 County Commissioner Michael Cote, who is unenrolled.

Two candidates have said they’re seeking the nod for York County judge of probate. They are Democrat Bryan Chabot and incumbent Robert M.A. Nadeau, who is unenrolled.

County offices are fouryear terms.
