BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with the Merrymeeting Community Rowing Association to offer a coached land-and-water rowing program.
The cost to participate is $300 for Brunswick residents, $400 for non-residents, with a minimum of five and maximum of 20 enrollments. The program is for ages 13-18.
Using rowing machines (ergs), body weight exercises, running and games, participants will work on goals related to fitness, rowing technique, team dynamics and safety three days a week for six weeks throughout March and April.
For six more weeks, participants will put that training to work on the water. Rowers will have the opportunity to experience both sculling (two oars), sweep (one oar) rowing and coaxing. Participants will gain competition experience through intra- and inter-club scrimmages.
Price includes MCRA membership and future discounts on MCRA summer programming.
An informational meeting will take place at Brunswick High School on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Training sessions will be held on Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Brunswick Rec. from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
